Just the other day, Parker and I drove a couple of hours to visit my twin sister and her sweet family. We had that most amazing time just being together and doing some of our favorite things! You know that beauty is my love language, and it must run in the family because my sister, niece, Sarah and Parker are super fans, too.

After we had lunch, the little ones ran off to play in the bedroom and Emily and I found ourselves in her bathroom, swatching, sampling, and spritzing the treasures from her vanity. I just love seeing the products that other people use, and I am so lucky to have an identical twin sister who can be my own personal mirror, and guinea pig, and vice versa! If it looks good on Emily, you can bet it will suit me, too. We have so much fun together!

As Emily and I discussed some of her latest beauty acquisitions (some of which she very kindly shared with me, and I will be sharing with you soon!) Parker and Sarah ran into the bathroom with a plan. “Can we do each other’s hair and makeup?” Of course, we agreed. No one in that room could ever say no to a beauty treatment!

Sarah did my hair and makeup look, and even included winged liner. I was so impressed with my 6 year-old niece! Parker did a glamorous Holiday look for Emily, and the grown-ups had such fun creating what we called a cheerleader chic look for the girls.

My heart was so full! After the girls ran off to practice their cheerleading routines, I looked at my stunning sister wearing smudged neon pink lipstick and sparkles for days and said in awe “This was my dream come true!” and she knew exactly what I meant.

I know it sounds a little crazy that those 20 minutes in my sister’s primary bathroom were the stuff of dreams, but I vividly remember being a teenager with hopes of one day having a daughter and being able to come together with my sister and her own daughter surrounded by clouds of powder, and hairspray.

On the way home, as Parker slept, I thought about that dreamy beauty experience with my girls and realized that I wasn’t so crazy after all. People have connected over hair and makeup for centuries. We need that sense of touch and gentleness. It’s comforting to know that someone cares for you enough to want to make you look and feel beautiful. The ultimate act of service!

If you are reading this, I know you must feel the same dreamy way about beauty. I didn’t get any pictures on that brilliant day with my girls, but I thought I would include pictures of Parker and I throughout the years when we have done one another’s makeup and had the most magical bonding moments.
